(No offense to your grandmother intended. I'm sure she's a wonderful lady with excellent musical taste.) Up until the '60s the accordion was the top-selling instrument in North America, and many of those long-lasting squeezeboxes are still out there. Maybe you've just found one in the attic or at a garage sale and haven't the first idea where to start with it? Let me help you. I've been a gigging squeezebox-slinger since '03, putting the lie to the assumption that all you can get out of an accordion are unhip Lawrence Welk walzes and snore-inducing Frankie Yankovic polkas. Instead, consider Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello, Buckwheat Zydeco, Beirut and the soundtrack to the movie Amélie. (I rocked the open mics playing Radiohead and Weezer, but to each his own.) Under my instruction, I can help you transform that musty old find from a coffee-table curiosity into a shiny strap-on iPod, and you just might get a crash course in world music along the way.
